In the United States, Oriental Medicine refers to a graduate-level masters degree program. A 2 year pre-med program is a prerequisite followed by a 4 year Oriental Medicine program studying of the 12 modalities of Oriental Medicine; Chinese Pharmacology, Acupuncture, Chinese Psychology, Tui Na Bodywork, Qigong and Nutrition, are a few of the modalities. The masters degree program is the title of; L.Ac (Licensed acupuncturist). An L.Ac must obtain the qualifications for the NCCAOM license to practice. (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).  With further study and qualifications, the title; D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine) can be obtained. Continued education is mandatory each and every year for all licensure.
